Zuellig Pharma’s eZCooler Solution Expands Healthcare Access
Zuellig Pharma has recently introduced a sophisticated new packaging solution – the eZCooler solution – that ensures the integrity of temperature-sensitive products to the last mile of transportation.
Now used in Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, the eZCooler solution significantly extends the storage time of temperature-sensitive products in transit from two days with a traditional system to five days.
Zuellig Pharma’s Senior Vice President, Operations Darren Wedding said helps to drive healthcare access in these countries. “The eZCooler solution has been developed using a unique thermal isolation system that maintains the specific temperature of a product for up to five days, enabling greater reach for these products across Asia – particularly to remote or rural areas,” he said.
The eZCooler solution’s sophisticated phase change material and vacuum insulation panels enable it to operate without any reliance upon external energy sources.
“This purpose designed material is specially formulated for different temperature needs, meaning it works efficiently in all markets across Asia. The system has been extensively tested and sophisticated temperature monitoring technology means the in-transit storage temperature of the product can be checked upon delivery.”
Mr Wedding added Zuellig Pharma does bi-annual tests to validate the technology. “This includes simulating ‘worst case’ scenarios where products may have been delayed in transit for reasons outside of our control to ensure we are prepared for all scenarios. Once the products reach their destination we are again able to validate the temperature of
the product through temperature monitoring devices.”
The eZCooler solution is also much lighter than traditional cold storage packaging solutions, helping to reduce freight costs. “It is also reusable and 100% recyclable, minimizing our environmental impact,” Mr Wedding concluded.
